Making the Dream come true

I chose this story because it’s the first I saw that was interesting and I never really heard deeply about who was with Dr. King and his last words before he passed. Clara spoke about her life story being dedicated to the civil rights movement with Dr. King and how it went down after his final speech. When he got assassinated, you could feel and hear in her voice, the anger and pain because he was the leader of this movement and was making strides for our rights and they just ended up killing him, so that it would be the end of the civil rights movement. She understood that they had to be the ones to carry out his dream for him and for ourselves. One thing that caught me was that she said he did his own eulogy, and I wouldn’t be able to sit there and watch someone so inspirational and motivational die in front of me and tell me something so important with his last breath.

This story is about 2 backup singers, Sandra Bears and Martha High, that had sang with James Brown and they talk about the life they had outside of signing and their different experiences. If you heard of him and saw the movie “Get on Up”, you would understand how he was as a person. I feel like I couldn’t be a part of his group, but they loved singing on the big stage and had to provide for their family. Something that caught my attention was that one of the singer’s dad didn’t think singing wasn’t a job and that she needed a 9-5 job, but she wanted to do what she loved. The other singer had a family before coming to the group and had plans and wanted to be with her family, so she left. At the end of the story, they showed off their singing talents and it was so beautiful and I could see why James Brown wanted them to be a part of their group.
