Sweet Trip is one of my favorite artists and have their own unique sound. In 2003 they put out an amazing album that has an early 2000s feel to it and blends multiple genres together to create something well produced and creative.

The album mixes multiple genres to create its unique vibe. It starts off with glitches that give that early 2000s digital world feeling. Then it introduces more instruments that blend that digital feel with shoegaze. I personally love shoegaze so that’s a big reason why I enjoy their music so much, but also because of the unique blend of sounds. Even with this glitchy shoegaze feel, it still sounds like another genre, city pop. The bouncy feel-good music feels like a mix of Gorillaz and My Bloody Valentine. The singers also have light and airy voices that just make you want to close your eyes and listen intently.

I also think this album shows a great amount of effort that went into its production. There are so many unique sounds, instruments, and noises you can hear that are layered so well to make it sound musical. There are glitchy sounds used in many different songs by other artists, but I like how these are used to create a world to be encapsulated in. One of my favorite songs is Fruitcake and Cookies, and it feels like I am in the early 2000s digital world specifically. There is no other era that gives me this feeling. I feel like I am on the background of a bright Windows XP screen and almost within a vaporwave aesthetic. Overall, I would suggest anyone who hasn’t heard of Sweet Trip give this album a listen and explore what their sound has to offer.
