“Clean” by Hillsong

The song “Clean” by Hillsong is primarily acapella with some subtle instrumental accompaniments. Something that really stood out to me throughout the entirety of the song is the slight dissonance in the harmonies. They blend together nicely, but on certain notes, they seem to rub against each other slightly, which I found to be really interesting as it added a unique element to the song. The chorus begins with the lyrics, “so I will rise and lift my head,” and the voices come together in a way that mimics the movement of rising up. Listening to this song through different outputs has offered different perspectives on the elements of sound throughout the song. While listening through a computer or a phone without earbuds still offers up a rich sound as the voices swell throughout the song, listening with headphones allows the listener to feel truly immersed in the song and the voices seem to surround your head. The title of the song is reflected in the quality of the voices as well. The voices have a very clean, rich, pure sound.
