The first song off of her album, “Both”, Carly Ptak takes multiple recordings of herself performing different actions and sounds with her voice. Grunting, groaning, moaning, throaty breathing, babbling, etc. She compiles these sounds together, and puts them on top of a micronoise track that darts around in the background. This combination of beeps and bops, and primal sounds, gives a very interesting and uncomfortable experience to the listener. To me it feels very personal. It feels as if she is letting me witness her in a state that we don’t really visit all too often. This song put my own state of being into question, and I can owe some of my creativity to it. I hope you guys enjoy it as well!
