As the second promotional single for Doja Cat’s new album “Scarlet” she decided to release the song, “Paint the Town Red.” Little did she know this song was going to be a huge controversy for the music industry. In the music video Doja Cat depicts herself summoning a demon, she is seen dancing around a cart of blood and raw meat. She is also pictured in a red dress with a matching hood standing and dancing with the Grim Reaper. Many people and even her closest fans had a problem with the song and music video depicting demonic figures.
Some fans argued that Doja Cat was bringing out her musical creativity. People applauded her for her art she was making through her music and specifically this music video.
Her comments were flooded with different types of messages. People saying “she chose her side, we need to protect ourselves,” “please keep this away from me,” “this song comes from a place of power. keep it up girl.” Overall, I believe her fans were confused on how to react to this type of music and video footage of Doja Cat. I certainly find it quite weird for demons along with other things to be the focus for artists. It is definitely a touchy subject.
