“Try to be happy.” : A father shares his wisdom.
The first story I listened to was about a father named Tchin. He started from nearly nothing and made his way to be a man and a father full of experiences, success, and wisdom. Within the first 30 seconds he is explaining to his daughter, Xiao, that he picked up and moved to New York with nothing. This was important to me because I am moving to New York after graduation, so it really hit home hearing his experience being homeless and trying to make his way.
He was told multiple times that he would end up in jail, or stuff like he would never become anything, so clearly he wanted to prove them wrong. He quickly taught himself how to read and write by reading an encyclopedia. He explains that he gained his confidence from his wife, and truly put so much love and care into his family which resulted in his career success as well as his overall wisdom and personal success.
“Father and son locksmiths share the keys to their success”
The second story I listened to was about Philip and Phil, a father and son who were locksmiths together, as Philip gained the same passion as his father. Phil started his company when he was younger which was first a summer gig, but it quickly led to a lifelong lifestyle. Philip is Phil’s youngest child, however that does not put any damper on their relationship or closeness. The father and son explain that you can never work hard enough. Phil says that coming from immigrant parents he learned how hard you have to work in order to succeed. I think this story is extremely powerful and inspiring. Philip is a wonderful leader and inspiration to his son. In the end of the clip Phil asks his son when he is going to retire and his response was the day before his funeral. I thought this was a wholesome and heartfelt response and truly shows his dedication.
