Traveling to great bodies of water has always been a favorite pass time of fine. Finding a pond or lake, a creek or river, or especially the ocean, has always been something that brings a great deal of peace and silence to my life. It’s like the stress of existence is somehow washed away, and I think that can be attributed to the auditory experience it provides.
It is well-established that engaging or seeing nature has stress-reducing properties for the body, but research shows that just listening to the sounds of nature have the same effects. Results have shown that, when compared to results of no audial experience, the sounds of nature lower stress chemicals and promote faster healing and growth in the body. It is unknown if this effect is universal, but it is hypothesized to be an inherent reaction for every person to be drawn to nature.
I hope this encourages you to take a trip outdoors any time you feel like the world is crashing down on your shoulders. Let Mother Nature lend a helping hand!
