Beastie Boys were a hip hop group from New York City composed of Mike D, Adam Yauch, and Adam Horovitz. Sabotage is a song by the Beastie Boys also produced by Mario Caldato Jr. from the album III Communication that came out in the early 90s that was the last song on the album to be finished. The song was originally recorded as an instrumental as they could not find the lyrics to go with the audio but later was able to. This song starts out with distorted heavy guitar playing that seems to start out as a hard rock song with a large drum sound in the background to give it the hard rock feel. one thing that could be inferred is that there was definitely use of normalizing and compressing the audio as the reverb and amplitude as well as the pitch of the scream going into the lyrics cause a kind of clash of different high db sounds. When the first vocals are recorded on the song, it goes on cue with the sound of cymbals being banged by the drumsticks.

From this point on you can tell that the song’s genre takes a turn as it goes from hard rock, to use the hip hop genre in unison with the punk rock genre. the abrasive instrumentation of the vocals seem to give it a kind of screechy yet pumping up mood to the song that gives a sense that this song will not be like the rest. Near the end of the first minute of the song you hear turntable scratches that are harsh and jarring but go very well with the tempo and pitches of the song. The loudness of the the Instruments especially when the major scream happens in the middle of the song combines the middle and end of the song perfectly. This song has been played in movies such as star trek and if you watch that movie and the scene it plays the soundtrack in it gives off the feeling that the song is chaotic but in the way to which you are feeling good and the audio while all over the place in its overall pitch and quality, create a kind of attack to where you are pleasantly surprised when you reach the end of the song. In the final seconds of the song it ends on a guitar that is vibrating and reverberating it seems like all over the room with a tiny bit of natural sound that almost seems like a plug or switch being turned on or off. For the most part I would say the song is underrated in how it uses its vocal audio and instrumental to create a song that for some would be hard to create based on this instrumental.
