“Supercut” on Lorde’s 2017 Melodrama album, is one of the best songs I have probably ever heard. Here’s why;

The song begins with a soft spoken Lorde saying “In my head…” eluding into a potentially unrealistic and rather made up expectation of reality. So, given the name and the internal reflection you recieve from Lorde in the beginning of the verse it’s possible to understand that there is a supercut, or a video montage, of memories that are rushing/playing through her mind.

One of the most compelling aspects of the song is that their is a continous beat build up throughout the song that makes the listener reflect on their own memories. Combine “the visions never stop” with the beat that feels like it’s climbing, and you have a feeling of your own emotions that you can place on the song. It allows you to listen to the song by bringing your own experiences that might apply.

There’s a beat change in the middle of the song during the verse “When you call, when you call, I forgive and not fight.” The way that Lorde sings this as well as the instrumental change gives an almost euphoric feeling of what it feels like when you are in the midst of a very exciting lige event.

That’s why I think this song is so applicable to dancing with your friends, driving with your windows down in the summer and even just singing it in the shower. It gives that feeling of freedom and happiness. Depsite the words itself being about a relationship that Lorde misses. The beat just makes you feel alive.

The universal feeling of happiness and happy memories is something that I find myself tending to cling to when it comes to the music I enjoy. I love being able to mindlessly feel like a song is reflecting the happy memories in my life. There are many songs that I feel this way about but I chose Supercut in particular because it’s a song that my roommates and I actually all share and I feel like we collectively all will remember our college years together anytime we hear it.

That’s the funny thing about music it tends to hold feelings and memories. Sometimes people can remeber how a song they would listen to in high school still made them feel all these years later.

Give the song a listen to. Listen in the car with the windows down. Listen in front of the mirror. Listen while making your bed. Listen whenever and wherever and just notice how this song makes you feel. I have a feeling you might feel just a tad bit happier 🙂

I also wanted to include the montages and memories that people have actually made with the song.

Hope you enjoyed!
