865 (The Dangerous Sessions)-Morgan Wallen

The song I chose for October’s Listening Party discussion is “865” by Morgan Wallen. This was on Wallen’s album, “Dangerous” that came out in January. The video on YouTube is him and his band recording it in a theater. I like this because it shows the viewer the types of instruments used. I believe there were four acoustic guitars present on stage. This is not a surprise as acoustic guitars are popular in country music. Wallen is in the middle and doesn’t start playing his guitar until the chorus. The first 20 seconds of the song is just his vocals with the band playing their guitars. All of the guitars are in tune after Wallen jumps in. There is also a drum set being played, that keeps the beat of the song. I think this helps with the overall rhythm of the song as it plays. During some of the verses in between the chorus, I believe the drum beat slows the song down.

Another thing that is noticeable while watching this video is the sound on the microphones. Since Wallen is the main singer, his microphone is turned up the loudest I believe. There are at least two backup singers who’s voices are lower, to not get in the way of Wallen. The backup singers also sing other lyrics in the chorus when Wallen holds “865” for a few seconds. I also believe that their microphones makes them have a different voice than Wallen.
