“D-Day” – Agust D

Agust D, born Min Yoongi and known as SUGA of BTS, is a rapper, producer, and songwriter who got his start in the Hip Hop scene of Daegu, South Korea. He eventually found himself as an integral member of BTS after saying he would never be a K-pop star. However, during his time in the group, he has also branched off to release his own music under the name Agust D. He released his self-titled first mixtape “Agust D” in 2016, “D-2” in 2020, and “D-Day” was released after much fan anticipation in 2023.

Though many K-Pop stars have emerged as rappers and solo artists, SUGA’s devotion to emotional lyrics that reflect his real emotions and struggles is what sets him apart from the others. His songs show his intense introspection about his life experiences that many fans can relate to. “D-Day” specifically explores the feeling of being on a pedestal due to the drastic, world-wide fame that BTS had accomplished, while also staying true to his personal identity.

Through emotional lyrics and raps paired perfectly with music that holds true to his Hip Hop roots while also paying tribute to the pop genre that he has found himself in. The album details many of his life experiences and emotions in an incredibly vulnerable manner, allowing it to perfectly accomplish his goal of staying true to his pop-star persona, as well as his underground rap persona.
