In his third studio album, Harry Styles combined sounds to create something entirely unique from the rest of his musical career. The album works through themes of love, loss, and overall life experiences. He uses the sounds to push along the messages of each song, depciting what the listener is intended to feel with the tone of each piece.
The first two tracks on the album have a very upbeat and lively feel. “Music for a Sushi Resturant” begins the album and takes the listener through an audio journey even standing apart from the album as a whole. The use of trumpets and synth beats introduces an electric feel to the start of the album. The second song “Late Night Talking” also accomplishes this by using drums along with a beat that you really cannot resist dancing to.
With several more upbeat songs mixed in, the album does shift into a deeper, more real tone with songs such as “Matilda”, “Little Freak”, “Boyfriends”, and “Satellite” to name a few. While these songs are vastly different in theme from the two that lead the album, the aspect of audio layering that allows the listener to be transported from song to song.
