ODESZA is a dance electronic style band comprised of five lifelong friends. The group does not release albums often, the band’s newest album, “The Last Goodbye” marks their newest release since “A Moment Apart” which was released five years ago. Their music style is consistent between albums with the unlikely presence of a drumline that performs live and on recordings.
Within the EDM genre of songs, a variety of artists will sound similar and it can be hard to differentiate each song. ODESZA is not one of these artists because how they have created an album around the power of connection. The group brings a variety of different sounds into each song, including voice, changing levels, piano, drums, and sound effects. The songs also include patterns and repetition, which creates familiarity for the listener.
The song “Loyal” by ODESZA is a great example of how the group includes many more sounds than most EDM-style bands. The song opens with strong sounds from the drumline and includes brass sounds as well. There are vocals present enhancing their unique sound. Attached is a live performance from Coachella in 2018 of “Loyal” and “Don’t Stop.”
