Story Corps – 2 Stories – JMD

“A Family Built On The Dance Floor”

My First Story was about a father and a daughter reflecting on the folk dance that played a pivotal role in their lives. The Dance play the most pivotal role in the life of the father, because when he learned how to dance this dance, he met his wife. They went on to have a daughter and raise her up to dance this folk dance as well. Like I said, this StoryCorps was a reflection of the past and how this dance built a family and how the father and daughter claim they are one of their favorite partners. I like the way this story was started. It had a background music which was not too loud, it also had a narrator they gave background and then the daughter and the father spoke. This gave it a nice interview feel. This story was really a personal story.

“I Felt That God Had Put Me On This Earth To Do This”

This second story was a journey story. One that is full of accomplishments and overcoming obstacles, but it is also about how to be patient for things that you really want. Ocean Subiono rejected from the military for having a condition with his eyelids not being fully developed, was rejected from the military. Became a fire fighter right out of high school, he waited 7 years and then was accepted to the military. This story was amazing. It had a narrator and great dialogue. The music levels were a little too loud and the story had a nice flow to it. It was another personal story. Both the Son and the father spoke as if to make it feel like the audience was in the room and they were having a conversation with you specifically. Both of the stories that I listened to were under 4 minutes each, but they both were packed with heartfelt stories.
