I have listened to a few podcasts so far but this summer I was introduced to the Armchair Anonymous podcast series by my boss and I was hooked. The podcast is hosted by Dax Sheppard who is Kristen Bell’s husband (I was shocked when I found that out) and Monica Padman. While their podcast is actually Armchair Expert, they run a series called Armchair Anonymous where each episode has a random theme and callers call in to tell a story related to the theme. Normally episodes on this show are recorded visually as well but for Armchair Anonymous it is audio only since many of the stories are told by anonymous listeners.
The reason why this podcast is interesting audio wise is they have a very nice setup with cameras, audio equipment, producers, editors, etc. yet to do the anonymous call in series, listeners call in (i’m pretty sure on zoom) and if you listen to most of the episodes you will find out that Monica instructs everyone that calls in to find a small room preferably a closet for the best as possible audio for the show, sometimes the audio from the callers are pretty great but they have also been so horrible before I struggle to follow along (it is rare but it happens), it is just interesting because this is how I was introduced to the idea that closets are usually the best spots for audio recording at home if you don’t have a fancy recording studio. And it is interesting because that’s what gets by on a super famous and high produced podcast show like Armchair Expert but they’re also really not another choice. I included a random episode below from their YouTube but I have always listened to them on Spotify. I really recommend them for enjoyment. I like to listen when I drive home to my parents since it’s a four hour drive but sometimes Dax can be a little weird in my opinion.

Great Post! I agree that recording in a closet is a good idea. In fact, last semester a student did a presentation on someone who records reading books professionally and turned one of her closets in her apartment into a recording booth. I’ll check out this podcast.
