ASTROTHUNDER – Travis Scott (Slowed & Reverb)

As shown in my listening party presentation, this is a remixed version of Travis Scott’s ASTROTHUNDER. A small piece of a giant trend on youtube of slowing down songs, changing the pitch of the song and adding reverb to increase the space in which it is being played. I find this trend fascinating because of the power it wields in changing the nature of a song. That coupled with the looping visuals in the video, ties together this aesthetic of late night sad music, to listen to when emotions are at their peak, alone in the dark. It’s a simple remix, technically speaking, as it takes advantage of just two effects, however just these two effects can have a powerful impact on the environment the song was initially associated with.

What I find most interesting about this is that it’s a modern take on the remix. When we more often refer to the term remix we would think adding a verse from another artist, changing around the stems of the song or throwing in another instrument or chorus. However this version takes the wrapped song, a completed file, and makes changes from the outside and still has a profound effect on the song. Being that it’s a simple process allows anyone to make these versions of the song, as we can see on youtube that there is a slowed and reverbed version of any song imaginable.
