Hayya Hayya (Better Together), one of the songs from the 2022 FIFA World Cup Soundtrack

As the World Cup is set to begin this Sunday, for my blog post this month I wanted to touch on one of the songs that was released as a part of this year’s official soundtrack.

For some background information, every World Cup a song is chosen as the official song of the event and this year, an entire soundtrack was created to celebrate the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The first song that was announced and released was Hayya Hayya (Better Together) by Trinidad Cardona, Davido and Aisha. The upbeat anthem captures the joy and excitement this event brings every four years.

Songs made for the World Cup are known for combining influences from multiple different countries and this track is no different.

The three artists who worked on the song all have different backgrounds and perspectives which all came together and are shown in the music. Trinidad Cardona is originally from Arizona and brings more of a Latin influence to the track based on his previous work such as the song “Dinero.” Davido brings an African influence to the track, having grown up in Nigeria, and producing a lot of music in the Afrobeats genre. Aisha represents her country of Qatar on the song as she is one of the country’s most well-known artists.

With all that being said throughout the track one can hear influences of R&B and reggae music providing a unique sound but one that still fits in with the multicultural theme of this event.

According to the website I’ve been using for my research, FIFA has a new strategy when it comes to music this year as well, focusing on producing multiple songs to “bring passionate fans closer to the spirit of the FIFA World Cup like never before.”

While it’s normal for these songs to feature artists from the country the event is held in every time, this year there will be even more of a multicultural influence with multiple artists and genres represented from all over the globe.

While there has been some drama with some of the newer music as a part of this soundtrack that has been released, Hayya Hayya (Better Together) is a perfect example of an uplifting and danceable World Cup song that allows the audience to connect with the music, and features a wide multicultural range of artists and genres.
