November Blog Post – Library of Sounds

In class, we discussed the importance of good-quality headphones. We talked about how it is important that we have good-quality sound so people can hear what we record. We also talked about the impact of sounds and how there is a library of sounds. Like this concept, TikTok is kind of like a library of sounds. It is interesting to see how sound has evolved and how people now associate certain sounds with certain videos. For example, I recently saw someone bit another person in a movie and the first sound that came to my mind was the famous “Charlie bit my finger” sound from several years ago. This goes to show that sound is ever-evolving, and new sound trends will come and go.
Furthermore, this new library of sounds on TikTok and the library of sounds that we discussed in class also made me realize that there are common sounds for certain objects. In our ADR projects, people replaced certain sounds with other common sounds. For example, in one of the projects a person replaced the sound of water spilling out of a tank. Once I heard that noise, I knew it was water. I think it is interesting to note that our society has common sounds that we can all identify. I wonder what sounds or new TikTok sounds will become widely known in our society.
