Story Corps – Gattis Smith

https://storycorps.org/stories/as-two-communities-clashed-a-lifelong-friendship-grew/

This story talks about Jim moving to Arizona after World War 2. He ended up meeting Carlos and they had a shaky start. They would fight but they ended up seeing each other at church. The story was interesting because they talked about how they ended up having many more similarities than they thought. This story was really interesting because as they were younger they would put heads over pointless stuff.
The audio starts of with music going into an introduction before Jim starts talking The music is pretty mellow due to the story starting off with them not being fully close. The ending also picks back up with a more upbeat song as they talk more on the happier end

This story talks about Navy Yeoman Jacob being a gay man who has to essentially go back into the closet because it was during the 90s during the “don’t ask don’t tell period.” He goes on to talk to his husband Carson answering questions about what made him do it.
This story also starts with somber music which is a great type for this story and fades off into that same music.
