Dancing and Passion

The first story I listened to was titled “‘We’re Just Big Guys Dancing’: How One Man Found His Calling As A Mavs ManiAAC.” In it spoke Rob “Big Rob” Maiden, describing his come up as a dancer in the dance group “The Mavs ManiAACs” to his fellow team member Daniel “Boy Ain’t Right” Jacob. I found this story compelling because Maiden speaks on the type of support his parents, specifically his father, gave him on his journey to truly find himself in what he did. That is something I can relate to personally, and I thought it was nice to see someone doing something so fun-looking as a living with that kind of support.

The second story I listened to was titled ““My Mother the Performer”: The Life and Legacy of Dorothy Toy.” In it spoke Dorlie Fong, daughter of Dorothy Toy, about her late mother’s passion for her art of performing, and how they connected through it even in her mother’s final moments. This is a very touching and emotional listen, and speaks to the effect of a sheer magnitude of passion for something. Fong describes her mother as being far different than other’s parents, but when she learned to embrace what her mom loved and accept that as a part of herself, she found herself becoming closer with her mom, which I found very sweet.
